Japan’s Latest Godzilla Hotel Room Is a Love Letter to the Showa Era
01/05/2026
Godzilla fans visiting Japan will soon have a new place to stay that doubles as a crash course in classic monster movie history. On December 20, 2025, a new Godzilla collaboration room called the Showa Toho Kaiju Archive opens at GRAND CHARIOT Hokuto Shichisei 135°, a resort villa located inside Nijigen no Mori theme park on Awaji Island, about two hours from Osaka, Japan.
The special room is themed around Godzilla’s Showa era, which refers to the original run of Toho’s Godzilla and kaiju films released between the 1950s and mid-1980s. Inside, guests will find displays inspired by the movies, including replicas of weapons used to fight Godzilla, reproduction scripts, storyboards, and production sketches. The decor leans heavily into retro Japanese style, with low tables, floor cushions, vintage-style enamel signs featuring monster names, and shoji-inspired blackout curtains.
The opening celebrates the fifth anniversary of Godzilla Interception Operation, Nijigen no Mori’s main attraction. The experience centers on a massive life-size Godzilla built into the landscape, measuring roughly 120 meters long. Visitors take part in interactive attractions like zip lines and shooting challenges, framed as a fictional mission to stop Godzilla.
Staying in the Showa Toho Kaiju Archive room comes with several exclusive perks. Guests receive admission tickets to Godzilla Interception Operation, along with two collectible items that are not sold separately. One is a leatherette coaster embossed with Godzilla, and the other is an art board featuring concept artwork of King Ghidorah, one of Godzilla’s most famous enemies, first introduced in the 1964 film Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster.
The Showa Toho Kaiju Archive is designed for up to two guests. Reservations opened December 11 through the official GRAND CHARIOT website. For international fans planning a Japan trip, this room offers a rare chance to sleep inside a space built around Godzilla’s early film legacy rather than just visiting it for the day!
