Godzilla Now Greets Travelers at Haneda Airport With a Mega-Colossal Monument

Haneda Airport has added a new landmark inside Terminal 3 with the world’s largest indoor Godzilla monument, now greeting and seeing off international travelers as part of the HANEDA GODZILLA GLOBAL PROJECT. Stretching roughly 131 feet wide and 20 feet tall, the installation turns Japan’s busiest airport into an unexpected Godzilla encounter.
The monument is modeled after the original Godzilla suit design from 1954 and is designed to be experienced from multiple angles as passengers move through the terminal. Unlike rooftop statues or single-view displays, Godzilla is fully integrated into the space, encouraging visitors to look up, step back, and take it all in before heading to the gate or after clearing arrivals.
At a completion event held at Haneda Airport Terminal 3, Toho Chief Godzilla Officer Keiji Ota reflected on the long road to making the project a reality. “Godzilla is a character that represents Japan,” Ota said. As the six-year project reached completion, Ota added, “It’s a moment filled with emotion, and I can only say I’m deeply moved.”
Masatoshi Akahori, president of Tokyo International Air Terminal Corporation, embraced the scale and symbolism of the installation inside Japan’s main international gateway. “I feel like Godzilla has made landfall, just like in a movie scene,” Akahori said. Speaking about the role Godzilla plays at Terminal 3, Akahori explained, “Godzilla welcomes you. Godzilla sees you off.”
Actress Riko Fukumoto, a frequent Haneda Airport traveler and ambassador for Godzilla The Ride at Seibuen Amusement Park, shared her reaction to seeing the installation in the departure area. “I never imagined the Departure Lobby would feature one of the world’s largest Godzillas... I was truly shocked!” Fukumoto said. Looking ahead to future trips, she added, “Before heading overseas, I’d like to say ‘See you later!’ to Godzilla, and it would be fun if that became a habit.”
The HANEDA GODZILLA GLOBAL PROJECT project goes beyond a single statue. Visitors arriving at Terminal 3 can also spot a colorful picture scroll depicting monsters from across Godzilla’s long history, installed above the arrival lobby information desk. Beginning December 23, a seven-foot-tall statue from Godzilla Minus One joins the lineup, giving inbound travelers another photo-worthy encounter before exiting the terminal.
As year-end and New Year travel ramps up, the HANEDA GODZILLA GLOBAL PROJECT is set to leave a lasting impression on first-time visitors and returning fans alike. Whether arriving in Japan or heading home, travelers now pass through a space where pop culture, scale, and spectacle collide. At Haneda, the journey officially begins and ends with Godzilla watching over it all!
