TOHO Studios Merchandise Brings Japanese Film History to Godzilla Store US

A selection of merchandise directly from TOHO Studios in Japan is arriving at Godzilla Store US, giving fans in the United States a rare opportunity to own items connected to one of the country’s most important filmmaking facilities.

Previously, these products could only be purchased at the shop inside TOHO Studios, an active production facility where visits are generally limited to invited guests. Their arrival at Godzilla Store US brings a piece of the studio’s culture and history to a much wider audience.

TOHO Studios Original Apparel and the TOHO Studios Collection

The lineup brings together TOHO Studios Original apparel and products from the TOHO Studios Collection.

The TOHO Studios Original selection includes five T-shirts in different color combinations and a traditional Japanese homaekake-style canvas apron. These items feature designs centered on the studio’s logo and visual identity.

The TOHO Studios Collection draws inspiration from the history and working environment of TOHO Studios. Its designs incorporate elements connected to the facility, including its logo, artwork, and visual details associated with film production.

The TOHO Studios Collection T-Shirt features artwork inspired by the Godzilla display at the studio entrance. The design references the wall beside the statue at the main gate, which appears to have been gouged by the King of the Monsters’ massive tail.

Together, the products offer a direct connection to TOHO Studios, from apparel bearing the studio’s identity to everyday items inspired by the place where productions are made.

More Than 90 Years of Filmmaking

TOHO Studios traces its history to the Photo Chemical Laboratory, commonly known as P.C.L., which was founded in Japan in 1932. The company later became part of TOHO, and its production site in Tokyo developed into the filmmaking center known today as TOHO Studios.

For more than 90 years, the studio has supported Japanese cinema through changing eras of production and technology. Its soundstages and facilities have helped bring a wide range of works to the screen, from historical dramas and comedies to musicals and celebrated special-effects and kaiju films.

TOHO Studios holds a particularly important place in film history through its connection to two landmark releases from 1954: Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai and the original Godzilla. Kurosawa’s film became one of the most influential works in international cinema, while Godzilla launched a series that has continued for more than seven decades.

Since then, TOHO Studios has remained closely connected to Godzilla filmmaking across generations. From Showa-era favorites such as King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962) and Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964) to later productions including Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995) and Shin Godzilla (2016), its facilities have supported the artists and technicians who helped shape the character’s screen history.

That legacy continues today as filmmakers, actors, designers, technicians, and craftspeople bring a new generation of productions to life at the studio, including the upcoming Godzilla Minus Zero.
