Godzilla vs. America: Portland Brings the King of the Monsters to the Pacific Northwest

All aboard! Godzilla’s ongoing tour of American cities is heading west, and the next stop is Portland! Published by IDW, Godzilla vs. America: Portland arrives in comic shops on March 11, 2026, with pre-orders due by February 2.
The Godzilla vs. America project launched as a city-by-city comic anthology and has previously sent Godzilla crashing through places like Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, and Kansas City. Each installment spotlights creators with strong ties to the featured city, treating local culture and landmarks as part of the story rather than just background scenery. Portland continues this approach, leaning into the city’s reputation for creativity, oddball charm, and deep comics talent.
Godzilla vs. America: Portland features stories by Mark Russell, Eryk Donovan, Colleen Coover, Cat Farris, and Caitlin Yarsky, all bringing their own spin on what happens when Godzilla rises out of the Pacific Northwest fog.
IDW Publishing’s Vice President of Marketing Aub Driver framed the project as a natural fit for the city. “As a Portlander, I can confirm there’s no city more deserving of a Godzilla-sized anthology,” Driver said. “This is a place built on creativity and weirdness, and watching the King of the Monsters stomp through our bridges, food carts, and foggy skyline feels oddly perfect. The Godzilla vs. America series has been a smashing success because every city has its own flavor, and Portland’s is richer and stranger than most. I think fans are going to have a blast seeing how our local storytellers bring that to life.”
Co-editors Jake Williams and Niño offered a tongue-in-cheek explanation for why Godzilla was bound to show up sooner or later. “Why is Godzilla heading to Portland? Because it was inevitable,” they said. “Godzilla exists to root out points of imbalance in the world, and for far too long Portland has been allowed to exist as such a point. What is their crime, you ask? Well, while the rest of the nation must make do with one or two comic creators in each of their cities, Portland has been greedily harboring an abundance of creative talent and star comic creators that wildly exceeds the allowance for a city of that size.”
Like the earlier chapters in the series, Godzilla vs. America: Portland treats its setting as part of the spectacle. With local voices, familiar landmarks, and a release timed for early spring, this latest stop on Godzilla’s American tour looks ready to leave a very large footprint!
