Godzilla: The Roleplaying Game Hits Kickstarter in 2026
12/10/2025
A massive tabletop announcement just stomped onto the scene. IDW Games is gearing up to launch Godzilla: The Roleplaying Game, a brand new way to face skyscraper sized chaos using character sheets, teamwork, and a deck of cards instead of dice. The project lands on Kickstarter next March and marks the first co-created tabletop title in years from Warhammer legends Jervis Johnson, Mark A. Latham, and Gav Thorpe.
Players step into the world of G-Force as kaiju events unfold around them. The game swaps traditional dice rolls for standard playing cards, opening the door to mechanics designed to keep sessions fast, tense, and unpredictable. It is built to capture the spirit of IDW’s long running Godzilla comics with scenarios that throw players right into the action.
“As a fan of RPGs over four decades it’s a privilege to work on a setting as iconic as Godzilla — one of the most recognisable characters worldwide! It’s been a great experience working with Jervis and Mark to bring to life our ideas for the IDW roleplaying system, and the Godzilla game,” says co-creator Gav Thorpe (Warhammer, Inquisitor). All three designers hint that the card based system allows for tricks, tension, and narrative turns not possible with dice.
The Kickstarter campaign for Godzilla: The Roleplaying Game will run for 30 days in early 2026, with limited edition reward tiers planned and fulfillment estimated for fall 2026.
More details are on the way, so keep an eye out as this colossal new RPG heads toward launch!
