Godzilla Invades Tokyo Dome City With a New Outdoor AR Attraction

Tokyo Dome City is officially under kaiju threat! Godzilla AR: Godzilla vs. Tokyo Dome is now open inside Tokyo Dome City Attractions, dropping visitors directly into a large-scale augmented reality encounter that unfolds in real space.

Unlike typical VR rides, Godzilla AR: Godzilla vs. Tokyo Dome is a permanent, outdoor AR attraction. Players wear head-mounted displays and step into a special area, where a full-scale Godzilla appears against the real Tokyo skyline. Up to ten people can participate at once, sharing the same battlefield and seeing the same towering monster from their own perspective as the situation escalates.

The experience blends real scenery with digital destruction, letting players look up at Godzilla looming overhead, hear roars echo, and watch heat rays fire off just meters away. The objective is simple but urgent: work together to lock onto the threat, lure the King of the Monsters into a trap, and stop the advance before Tokyo Dome City is overwhelmed.

Godzilla’s 3D model and animation are handled by Shirogumi, the visual effects studio behind Godzilla Minus One and Shin Godzilla. The version used here is based on recent Godzilla designs created by Takuya Uenishi, giving the attraction a look that aligns closely with short films like Fes Godzilla II: Shinjuku Burning.

Exclusive merchandise tied to the attraction is also available on-site, including logo stickers, pin badges, and acrylic keychains.

Each session runs about ten minutes and costs ¥1,300 (about $8.30). Participation is open to ages ten and up, with guests aged ten to twelve required to attend with a guardian. The attraction supports up to ten players simultaneously, emphasizing cooperation and shared tension rather than solo play.
