There's a lot for comic fans to look forward to when the King of the Monsters faces Marvel's God of Thunder in Godzilla vs. Thor #1. Not only will one of the most frightening versions of Godzilla be pulled into the Marvel Comics universe by one of its most nefarious forces, fans can also look forward to references to writer Jason Aaron's definitive Punisher and Thor arcs. Get the full story, and check out exclusive pages by artist Aaron Kuder, in our full interview and preview below.

Godzilla.com: Godzilla vs. Thor #1 stars a version of Godzilla from 2001's Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (GMK). You’re a known Godzilla fan. What made writing GMK’s Godzilla special to you?

Jason Aaron: The story needed the darkest, most violent version of Godzilla, and I think this guy fits the bill. He's fueled by the rage of all the restless souls who died in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He's also one of the most powerful versions of Godzilla we've ever seen, which comes in handy when you're going up against the God of Thunder.

Godzilla.com: One of the biggest storytelling opportunities across the “Godzilla vs. Marvel” event books is finding a way to bring the King of the Monsters into the Marvel Comics universe. What inspired your approach of using The Hand?

Jason Aaron: I loved dealing with the dark mythology of the Hand in the PUNISHER: KING OF KILLERS storyline from a few years back, and since that particular version of the Fist of the Beast didn't work out, it made sense that the ninjas of the Hand might next turn to Godzilla to serve as the living embodiment of their dark murder god, the Beast, since Godzilla is the monster whose every footstep and very breath brings destruction.

Godzilla.com: You’re considered by fans to be a definitive Thor writer, contributing multiple prominent arcs across the modern Marvel era. How did this experience shape your take on this version of the God of Thunder’s battle with Godzilla?

Jason Aaron: This story has a very particular connection to one of the most important aspects of my THOR run, one I hope people will be surprised by as they're reading the issue.

Godzilla.com: Outside of this story, do you have a favorite or personally definitive Godzilla film or other piece of media?

Jason Aaron: The original 1954 film, the first clash with Mothra in Mothra vs. Godzilla and the multi-monster melee that is Destroy All Monsters will probably always be my favorites. But of the more recent films, I really loved the wild designs of Shin Godzilla.

Godzilla.com: Extra Speculative Question: is there a version of Godzilla that you think could lift Mjolnir?

Jason Aaron: Does Godzooky from the old cartoon count?

Godzilla.com: You’ve been spotted in Godzilla t-shirts. What other highlights do you have in your kaiju collection?

Jason Aaron: Lots of Godzilla action figures, new and old. Though I'm still looking for a vintage Shogun Warriors Godzilla in good shape, complete with fist and working tongue.
