Godzilla’s Theme Music Is Coming to Tokyo’s Hibiya Station
10/16/2026
Tokyo’s subway journeys are about to get a kaiju movie soundtrack! Beginning with the first trains on November 3, 2026, Hibiya Station will use Godzilla’s Theme as its departure music on the Hibiya and Chiyoda lines.
For those unfamiliar with Japanese rail travel, these short musical cues signal that a train is about to leave. Some stations use tunes connected to their surroundings, adding a little local character to an otherwise routine commute.
Hibiya is a fitting setting for Godzilla music. The neighborhood houses TOHO’s headquarters, along with monster statues at Hibiya Godzilla Square and the nearby TOHO Cinemas complex. The studio also helped make the new platform soundtrack possible, extending an association that reaches back to the original Godzilla in 1954.
Passengers will hear two different melodies, assigned by direction. Platform 1 on the Hibiya Line toward Naka-meguro and platform 3 on the Chiyoda Line toward Yoyogi-uehara will share one melody. The other will play at platform 2 toward Kita-senju and platform 4 toward Ayase.
For fans visiting Tokyo, the change adds another reason to include Hibiya on the itinerary. After seeing the neighborhood’s statues, the next encounter with that familiar screen presence might come while waiting for the subway.
