Two New Kai-Sei Era Godzilla Titles Revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2026
07/23/2026
IDW Publishing unveiled two new entries in Godzilla’s Kai-Sei Era during the “GODZILLA SMASHES SAN DIEGO AND THE COMIC INDUSTRY” panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, July 23.
Hosted by Aaron John Gregory of Toho International, the panel explored the growing comic book universe and revealed the next chapters of two established Kai-Sei Era stories: GODZILLA: REVENGE OF THE DEADZONE and STARSHIP GODZILLA: INVASION X.
The creative teams behind the first DEADZONE and STARSHIP GODZILLA miniseries will return to revisit their characters, expand the setting, and uncover new secrets surrounding the King of the Monsters. The original volumes are available now, but both upcoming titles have been designed to welcome readers entering the Kai-Sei Era for the first time.
Here’s more info about these exciting new titles!
GODZILLA: REVENGE OF THE DEADZONE
Co-writers Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan will reunite with artist Pablo Tunica for GODZILLA: REVENGE OF THE DEADZONE, a five-issue continuation arriving October 28, 2026.
The story finds the Wanderer far from the Deadzone and imprisoned by G-Force in New York City. While a scientific team investigates the captive, new details about the Wanderer’s past begin to emerge. The examination also exposes the government’s larger plans for the Deadzone and its unusual inhabitants.
For Parker, returning to the setting offered an opportunity to build upon characters and ideas established in the original series. “It’s not every day as a writer that you get to follow up on characters and settings you worked with previously, let alone ones as near and dear to our hearts as the Deadzone and its kooky mutant inhabitants,” Parker says. “Godzilla has become a crucial part of Griffin and I in terms of our creative careers, and getting to build a rich world surrounding the King of the Monsters is the greatest honor.”
Parker describes the new miniseries as a culmination of the team’s work within the Kai-Sei Era, with a larger conflict intended to reward returning readers while remaining accessible to newcomers.
Sheridan claims the team approached the sequel with the same priority that shaped the first installment. “Just like ESCAPE THE DEADZONE before it, our goal with REVENGE OF THE DEADZONE is to craft not just a great Godzilla story, but a great comic book,” Sheridan says. “If you have read the first series, you’ll be able to feel us taking a big step up in terms of the scale and stakes.”
Pre-orders for GODZILLA: REVENGE OF THE DEADZONE #1 are due September 21, 2026.
STARSHIP GODZILLA: INVASION X
Writer Chris Gooch and artist Oliver Ono will continue their cosmic adventure in STARSHIP GODZILLA: INVASION X, a five-issue follow-up beginning October 14, 2026.
Although the crew of Starship Godzilla survived an initial confrontation with the Xiliens, the victory has triggered a much larger war. Facing the consequences of those actions, the crew must obtain substantial upgrades for the ship while bounty-seeking M Space Hunter Nebula Aliens close in. At the same time, the Xiliens are assembling the final components of a new cosmic kaiju weapon, setting the stage for an escalating battle across space.
Gooch summarizes the sequel’s expanded direction as “new kaiju, new upgrades, new planets” and says the creative team is “aiming to push everything to an even bigger scale for the finale.”
The debut issue will provide the background needed for new readers, while the first STARSHIP GODZILLA volume is also available for those looking to experience the complete story.
Pre-orders for STARSHIP GODZILLA: INVASION X #1 are due September 7, 2026.
