Godzilla vs. America: San Diego Brings the King of the Monsters to Comic-Con
04/24/2026
Godzilla is heading back to California, and this time the destination is San Diego! IDW Publishing’s Godzilla vs. America: San Diego goes on sale July 22, 2026, the same week as San Diego Comic-Con, with pre-orders due by June 15.
The Godzilla vs. America series has become one of IDW’s most entertaining anthology projects, bringing the King of the Monsters to locations across the United States. Unfolding as a city-by-city series of one-shots, the project highlights different American locations while also bringing in comic creators with ties to each place. Earlier installments have already spotlighted cities including Chicago, Boston, Kansas City, Portland, and Los Angeles, with a Texas issue arriving just ahead of San Diego on May 13.
The San Diego installment turns its attention to the country’s biggest comic book convention, using Comic-Con itself as the backdrop for Godzilla’s latest stop. The issue imagines the King of the Monsters crashing into a week usually dominated by panels, cosplay, and major entertainment announcements, only to become the main attraction instead.
Godzilla vs. America: San Diego features stories by Stan Sakai, known for Usagi Yojimbo, Greg & Fake of Santos Sisters, Dan Jurgens of The Death of Superman, and additional creators still to be announced.
Like earlier entries in the series, Godzilla vs. America: San Diego draws much of its energy from pairing local comics talent with a setting already known for its scale, creativity, and summer convention atmosphere. With the San Diego waterfront and the city’s event-season buzz all folded into the action, the issue feels especially well suited to its Comic-Con release week.
As San Diego joins the lineup, Godzilla vs. America continues its cross-country run one stop at a time, with more cities still waiting in the wings. For comics readers and kaiju fans alike, this Comic-Con season chapter looks ready to leave a very large impression!
