'Godzilla vs. America: Los Angeles' #1 to Benefit Comic Shops Impacted by Wildfires

100% of proceeds will benefit comic shops and stores impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires.

In October, IDW Publishing announced its Godzilla vs. America comic book series, featuring stories set in iconic cities by creators with a strong connection to them. Now, in response to the greater Los Angeles wildfires, the publisher will use its upcoming Godzilla vs. America: Los Angeles #1 title to give back, announcing it will donate 100% of proceeds to benefit The Book Industry Charitable Foundation (Binc).

Binc is a nonprofit founded in 1996 with the mission to "...strengthen the bookselling and comic retailing communities through charitable programs that support employees, owners, and their families."

"The California wildfires have closed dozens of book and comic stores, forced many book and comic people to evacuate or shelter in place, and Binc is already aware of seven booksellers who have lost their homes," wrote Binc on social media.

Set to release in April, Godzilla vs. America: Los Angeles #1 will include stories by Gabriel Hardman (Green Lantern: Earth One), J. Gonzo (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Jordan Morris (Bubble), Dave Baker (Mary Tyler Moorehawk), and Nicole Goux (Shadow of the Batgirl).

"Having been born and raised in LA, I couldn’t be happier to work on a comic packed with some of the city’s most talented cartoonists," associate editor Nicolas Niño told IGN. "We’ve got Godzilla fighting giant lowrider mechs, stomping through theme parks, and even a pamphlet on the city’s subway system (yes, LA does have a subway system)! The common theme? Angelenos coming together to fight back against a force of nature. This year’s started out hard for the city and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Los Angeles than by bringing its biggest challenge yet: The King of Monsters! Plus, all proceeds for this issue are going to support the Binc Foundation’s response to the wildfires that affected the city in January."

Godzilla has long had a connection to Los Angeles, initially as a filming location for the Godzilla, King of the Monsters! (1956) localization of the original 1954 Godzilla, and is home to Toho International, Inc. and IDW Publishing.

Godzilla vs. America: Los Angeles #1 arrives in comic book shops and online on April 30.
