'Godzilla: Here There Be Aliens' #1 to Invade Comic Shops in May
Godzilla: Here There Be Aliens #1 arrives in comic shops and online May 14.
IDW Publishing has just the thing for Godzilla fans who "want to believe". This May, the Eisner Award-nominated Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons trilogy begins its final chapter as writer Frank Tieri, illustrator Angel Hernandez, and color artist Heather Breckel team up for Godzilla: Here There Be Aliens #1.
Set to arrive in comic shops on May 14, Godzilla: Here There Be Aliens #1 kicks off an all-new limited series featuring none other than the Xiliens from 1965's Invasion of Astro-Monster movie and 2004's Godzilla Final Wars film.
From IDW's official solicitation:
GODZILLA: HERE THERE BE ALIENS is both a fully standalone limited series and the epic conclusion to the Eisner-nominated GODZILLA: HERE THERE BE DRAGONS trilogy! Brought to us by veteran scribe Frank Tieri (Wolverine, Jughead: The Hunger) and new series artist Angel Hernandez (STAR TREK). It’s the middle of the 20th century, and Americans everywhere are terrified by the strange lights hovering above them in the night sky…and they should be. These UFOs are actually the Xilien invasion force! Revealed to have already been on Earth during the events of Here There Be Dragons: Sons of Giants, the Xiliens have been attempting to destabilize the planet with the help of kaiju from outer space! With the aliens’ claws deep inside the U.S. government, will our rogue operatives manage to band together to save humanity?
"Well, all good things must come to an end as they say - and the GODZILLA HERE THERE BE DRAGONS saga is no different... but we fully intend to go out with a bang - a Big Bang if you will - with GODZILLA: HERE THERE BE ALIENS," wrote Tieri, "So yes, a story that started off with pirates and lost treasure in HERE THERE BE DRAGONS and then found itself in even more historical moments involving secret monster cults with the likes of Thomas Jefferson and Napoleon in the follow up THE SONS OF GIANTS, will now entangle itself in post-WW2 secret government cover ups and a huge Xilien invasion in HERE THERE BE ALIENS. It's everything we've been building up to, storywise and monsterwise - which means in addition to kaiju we've already seen like Godzilla, Rodan and Mothra, get ready for baddies of the Third Kind like Gigan, Space Godzilla, and Mechagodzilla."
"This War of the Worlds on steroids will all be seen through the eyes of Bob Jones, the last remaining agent of the project blue book-esque Project Colossus, a US government division specializing in proving the existence of kaju. Poor Bob's about to lose his job but keep in mind this is 1954 - and if you know your Godzilla history, you know what that means. So now suddenly they actually need Bob, for both his kaiju expertise and for the hope he can somehow get Godzilla and the gang to help them repel the Xilen's incoming invading forces. Fans can expect a nice mix of conspiracies, cover ups, monsters vs. aliens, monsters vs. monsters and even aliens vs. aliens - with more than a few surprises up our spacesuit sleeves. So look to the skies and join us Godzilla-heads... the final giant monster frontier awaits!" wrote Tieri.
