Godzilla Fest 2026 Launches Global Crowdfunding Campaign for New Burning Millennium Godzilla Suit
04/28/2026
Godzilla Fest 2026 is already taking shape in Tokyo, Japan, and this year’s biggest early reveal gives fans outside Japan a direct way to take part in the celebration. The annual Godzilla birthday event will return on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, with a new Fest Godzilla short film now in production.
The highlight of the Godzilla Fest 2026 announcement is a global crowdfunding campaign to support the creation of a new Burning Millennium Godzilla suit. The campaign will run through CAMPFIRE, one of Japan’s major crowdfunding platforms, and will be open for international participation across 82 countries. Fans will be able to support the campaign from regions including North and Central America, East Asia, Southeast Asia, Southwest Asia, Oceania, the Middle East, Europe, South America, and Africa.
The teaser page for the project opened on April 27, 2026, at 5:00 PM JST. The full project page is scheduled to launch on June 2 at 5:00 PM JST, with backing set to begin on June 20 at 5:00 PM JST. The campaign page is available here.
This marks a new step for the Fest Godzilla series, which has become one of the main attractions of Godzilla Fest in recent years. The shorts, directed by Kazuhiro Nakagawa, continue the tradition of Japanese tokusatsu filmmaking, using suit work, miniatures, and practical effects to create new Godzilla stories made specifically for the event.
This time, the challenge is centered on Burning Millennium Godzilla. In the previous short film, Fest Godzilla II: Shinjuku Burning, the character’s Burning form appeared through CG. For the next production, the team is aiming to create a newly built suit that can perform throughout the film. Previous Godzilla Fest crowdfunding projects supported suit production for rival monsters, but this project puts Godzilla at the center.
CAMPFIRE will also be used as a rolling update hub. Beginning with the teaser page, new project information and behind-the-scenes material are planned for release every Tuesday at 5:00 PM JST. Fans who add the page to their favorites will be notified when the main campaign begins in June.
Kazuhiro Nakagawa, director of the new Fest Godzilla short, said the project grew out of the reaction to Burning Millennium Godzilla’s appearance at the end of the previous film. He recalled the audience’s surprise that the story ended there, and said the next step was to let the new kaiju design take center stage. To make that possible, the team is creating a brand-new Burning Millennium Godzilla suit and asking fans to support the challenge.
Godzilla Fest 2026 will take place on November 3, the date marking the anniversary of the release of the original 1954 Godzilla film and celebrated as Godzilla’s birthday in Japan. Venue details, stage programming, and additional event information will be announced later. For now, the focus is on a new Fest Godzilla short film and a crowdfunding campaign that lets fans around the world help bring a new Godzilla suit to life!
