05/01/2026
A new Godzilla exhibition has opened in Niigata, Japan, giving fans a close-up look at the long history of the King of the Monsters through suits, miniatures, props, and special displays. Titled Godzilla Expo in Niigata, the event runs at Niigata Nippo Media Ship in Niigata City’s Chuo Ward, bringing together about 50 items connected to the film series.
The exhibition traces the path of Godzilla from the original film in 1954 through Godzilla Minus One in 2023, with about 50 items that highlight the series’ long production history. Displays include filming suits, miniature vehicles, trains, and other materials that show the texture, detail, and craftsmanship behind the movies.
A recreation suit of the original Godzilla is positioned near the exhibition entrance, setting the tone for a walk through decades of kaiju history. Other highlights include Godzilla suits used in the 2000s, the actual Oxygen Destroyer prop, and a promotional statue for Godzilla Minus One. Photo areas feature dioramas where visitors can use their own smartphones to create images that feel like miniature movie scenes.
A special section is also devoted to Mothra, who is currently celebrating Mothra Year, marking 65 years since the character first appeared on screen.
The exhibition is being held on the 20th-floor observation area of Niigata Nippo Media Ship, adding a city view to the experience. A goods area is also available, giving visitors a chance to pick up event-related merchandise after exploring the displays.
Godzilla Expo in Niigata runs from April 18 to May 10, 2026, at Niigata Nippo Media Ship, 20th floor observation area. For more information, visit the official event website.
