Godzilla Battles the Martians in Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Roar of the Worlds
05/27/2026
Godzilla’s journey through the literary canon continues this summer with Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Roar of the Worlds, a new oversized one-shot comic arriving August 12, 2026. The latest entry in IDW Publishing’s Monsterpiece Theatre line draws from H.G. Wells’ classic 1898 novel The War of the Worlds, which imagined invaders from Mars descending on England.
With comic book creator Kyle Baker handling the main story, Roar of the Worlds shifts the focus to another part of that same global crisis. The new one-shot asks what was happening in Japan while the Martian invasion unfolded elsewhere, and the answer places Godzilla directly in the path of the threat, turning a classic science fiction story into a kaiju-scale fight for Earth.
The issue also includes part three of Tom Scioli’s ongoing backup feature, Robin Hood and the Monster of Nottingham. The serialized story carries the Monsterpiece Theatre concept into Sherwood Forest, pairing another classic adventure figure with kaiju-sized danger.
Roar of the Worlds follows two earlier entries in the Monsterpiece Theatre line: Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Romeo & Juliet & Godzilla, which is on sale now, and Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Godzilla’s The Odyssey, arriving June 10. Each release brings in a different creative team to rework a classic work of literature through the world of Godzilla, while the Robin Hood and the Monster of Nottingham backup continues across the series.
Several cover options for Roar of the Worlds will be available for collectors. Cover A is by Tom Scioli, Cover B is by Kyle Baker, Cover C is by Flops!, and the 1:10 retailer incentive variant is by Nicole Goux.
