IDW Publishing's all-new interconnected line of King of the Monsters comics is just weeks away from kicking off its "Kai-Sei Era" in the Free Comic Book Day Godzilla: The New Heroes issue on May 3. To tide fans over as they await the line's flagship Godzilla #1 launch on July 23, plus the August 6 launch of Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone #1, the publisher has provided us with an exclusive first look at each series' variant covers, plus the retailer incentive Kai-Sei Godzilla enamel pin.
Godzilla #1 by writer Tim Seeley and artist Nikola Čižmešija will include the following covers:
- Cover A: Nikola Čižmešija
- Cover B: Kade Byrand
- Cover C: Arthur Adams [coming soon]
- Cover D: Martin Simmonds
- Cover E: Sketch variant
- Cover F: Čižmešija's Cover A foil variant cover
- 1:25 Retailer Incentive: Bag of 10 Enamel Pins
- 1:50 Retailer Incentive: Byrand full art variant
- 1:100 Retailer Incentive: Simmonds full art variant
- 1:150 Retailer Incentive: Adams full art black & white variant [coming soon]
Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone #1 by writers Ethan Parker and Griffin Sheridan and artist Pablo Tunica will include these variants and incentives:
- Cover A: Pablo Tuncia
- Cover B: Rod Reis
- Cover C: Pablo Tuncia concept art
- Cover D: Sketch variant
- 1:25 Retailer Incentive: Caspar Wijngaard
Rounding out the Kai-sei line on October 1 is the launch of Starship Godzilla #1 by writer Chris Gooch and artist Oliver Ono.
"We wanted the covers of the Kai-Sei Era to stand out. Both from everything we've done before, and from everything else on the shelf," wrote Godzilla editor Jake Smith, "Nikola Cizmesija and Pablo Tunica shattered all expectations we had for these covers. Each book has such a unique flair that you're not going to find anywhere else. And the variant covers? My god.
