Restoring the Monster Lineup
The process begins with cleaning and controlled bleaching to reduce discoloration, followed by linen backing to support the fragile paper. Carefully fitted patches fill the gaps, while airbrushing restores the sky. With a mint-condition copy of the same poster as a guide, the team uses gouache, colored pencils, and archival markers to recreate the missing artwork. Watching those details take shape is a highlight of the video, revealing the care involved in matching the original colors and brushwork.
An All-Star Kaiju Crossover
Released in Japan on August 1, 1968, Destroy All Monsters brought together 11 kaiju in one of the earliest large-scale shared-universe crossover films, with an adventure spanning cities around the world and reaching into outer space.
The story unfolds in the then-future year of 1999, when alien invaders seize control of Earth’s monsters and unleash them from Monsterland. After humanity frees the monsters from alien control, the kaiju face King Ghidorah at the foot of Mount Fuji in a finale that captures the scale of this all-star Godzilla adventure.
