'Shin Godzilla: ORTHOchromatic' to Screen at Japan Cuts in July

Shin Godzilla: ORTHOchromatic will screen July 14 and July 21 as part of the Japan Cuts film festival in New York City.

It's a landmark year for black-and-white Godzilla cinema. Not only were North American fans treated to the theatrical release of Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color, the artfully desaturated Shin Godzilla: ORTHOchromatic will also make its international debut in New York City this July as part of Japan Cuts.

Japan Society's Japan Cuts, North America’s largest festival of contemporary Japanese film, will screen Shin Godzilla: ORTHOchromatic on July 14, with an encore screening on July 21.

Debuting in its original full-color version in 2016, Shin Godzilla was directed by Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion) and Shinji Higuchi (Shin Ultraman), with a screenplay by Anno and visual effects by Higuchi. The film's black-and-white version, Shin Godzilla: Orthochromatic was initially screened in Japan at select theaters in October, 2023 leading up to the release of Godzilla Minus One.

Shin Godzilla: ORTHOchromatic has since received a home video release in Japan, with figure pre-orders opening at the Godzilla Store.

Japan Society members can pre-order Shin Godzilla: ORTHOchromatic tickets beginning today, with a general pre-sale opening on June 11.
