The Godzilla Zodiac: Which Kaiju Are You?
Find out which Godzilla kaiju you align with.
Godzilla debuted in theaters in Japan on November 3, 1954 making the King of the Monsters something of a cinematic Scorpio by default. But if you vibe more with Invasion of Astro-Monster than proper astrology, you might be open to a more relaxed interpretation of the western zodiac.
With nothing more than pure fun in mind, we've remapped the stars to pair some of your favorite Toho kaiju with certain astrological sign archetypes based on their onscreen personalities. Read on to discover which Godzilla monster you align with based on your birthday.
Aries (March 21–April 19): King Ghidorah
If two heads are better than one, then surely three can help to explain why the multifaceted King Ghidorah seems to effortlessly embody the Aries sign. Aggressive but assured, impatient but courageous, independent but leaderly, King Ghidorah is an Aries right down to its immense popularity.
From its first alien appearance, through transformative and time-traveling cyborg states, and even in pure anime energy forms, King Ghidorah has never shied away from making Godzilla put in the work to prove itself the King of the Monsters. And, it should be mentioned, looking super cool while doing it.
Though a ferocious combatant and frequent aggressor, King Ghidorah has shown a willingness to work with and even lead others, notably in Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack.
While some can question a given Aries' loyalty in the long haul, King Ghidorah is beyond reproach. When it's time to make Godzilla have a bad day in the most entertaining possible way, this is one Astro-Monster that will always come in clutch.
Taurus (April 20–May 20): Anguirus
Grounded, stubborn, and quadrupedal like its sign, Anguirus is a quintessential kaiju Taurus.
Famous for being Godzilla's first onscreen kaiju opponent, and later ally, Anguirus has consistently demonstrated its physical durability and emotional determination across seven films.
Some Tauruses can exhibit materialistic and possessive sides, but Anguirus has sidestepped these pitfalls with its remarkable ability to literally ball up and roll with life's punches. If anything, Anguirus is flexible and adaptable for a Taurus, especially within its comfort zone of big brawls and multi-monster battles.
Gemini (May 21–June 21): Shobijin
Whether referred to as the Shobijin, the Cosmos, or the Elias, it must be noted that Mothra's twin priestesses aren't kaiju, nor are they monstrous. In fact, they're social butterflies, beloved for their synced charm and communication prowess, interfacing with monster and humankind alike – often as translators. What's more, they regularly work to guide transformation, particularly Mothra's metamorphosis from pupa to winged form. When it comes to embodying positive Gemini traits, these twin priestesses are doubly smart, curious, and capable without the anxiety that can be associated with their sign, which is a good thing when you're caught between clashing kaiju.
Cancer (June 22–July 22): Mechagodzilla
Cancers can be a tough nut to crack. They can have a cold exterior while being capable of softer emotions on the inside. If Godzilla fans look at the sign literally, they might look toward crustacean kaiju Ebirah or Toho's 1970 Space Amoeba stone crab monster Ganimes. But when you peel back a layer, the multifaceted Mechagodzilla carries some Cancer vibes across its versions. With their tech platforms and advanced weaponry, all Mechagodzilla incarnations demonstrate the Cancer sign's creative and material sides.
But that's just the thing, there are many Mechagodzilla moods, and you never know which one you'll run into. Will you encounter an alien-made robotic weapon? A mecha capable of combining with a jet to achieve a super form based on salvaged cyborg tech from the future? Or even a Mechagodzilla that goes by another name entirely?
You may never know what you'll get with Mechagodzilla, it simply depends on the pilots (or the alien programming) that day.
Leo (July 23–August 22): Godzilla
The King of the Monsters is the undisputed king of the zodiac jungle. Is there any doubt that Godzilla is a Leo? Exuding unparalleled mental, physical, and potentially even psychic fortitude, Godzilla inspires fear in foes and love in fans. That's just the power of "main character" energy.
Even if you want to take a heat ray to the term "rizz", it must be said, Godzilla embodies the term in a way only a Leo can. Why, since its 1954 onscreen debut, Godzilla has stolen the show every time it's stepped onscreen, even – and especially – when it's stepping on cities.
After all, people love Leos enough to let them walk all over them, even when they're stomping. In everyday life, Leos can catch the occasional criticism for being so-called divas, but Godzilla is powerful enough to bend even the most "negative" Leo traits into insurmountable strengths. And it's safe to say, Godzilla fans are all here for it.
Virgo (August 23–September 22): Mothra
Fans believe in Mothra because, as a Virgo, the mighty kaiju believes in humankind. Renownedly reliable from antennae to thorax, the ever-faithful Mothra is – no surprise – an Earth sign.
Commonly depicted as a child and a parent, Mothra can sometimes express a judgemental nature when called on to help humankind. But in a time of extensive wars and pollution, who can blame it? Mothra always comes through in the end, often at its own noble expense.
Even better, Mothra's Virgo sign is extremely compatible with its Gemini priestesses, ensuring the endearing mutable collaboration that Earthlings rely on for kaiju protection from monsters and even themselves.
Libra (September 23–October 23): Jet Jaguar
The humankind-helping Jet Jaguar is a Libra to the cybernetic core.
This idealistic size-changer (which qualifies as a shape-shifter, of sorts), embodies harmony. Created to be a synthetic super hero, Jet Jaguar was forced to do evil by the Seatopians. And yet, the awesome android regained its true nature to team up with Godzilla and defeat Gigan and Megalon with smilin' style.
Forget team-up tropes, Jet Jaguar put in the work to overcome Libra's weaknesses to emerge a beacon of balance.
Scorpio (October 24–November 21): SpaceGodzilla
Controlling? Check. Obsessive? Check. Secretive? Check. Vengeful? Oh yeah. And psychic? That too. SpaceGodzilla is an absolute crystallization of some of the most negative Scorpio traits. And for a powerful Godzilla foe, that's probably a positive.
As relayed by The Cosmos, SpaceGodzilla is the kind of Scorpio that wants what it isn't meant to have, and will do anything to get it. Unfortunately for humankind, SpaceGodzilla wanted Earth.
Without help from the Cosmos, though, SpaceGodzilla can seem like a bit of a black hole. Quiet and calculating, the extremely intelligent SpaceGodzilla acted with shrewd malice in its determined ambition to defeat Little Godzilla, Godzilla, M.O.G.U.E.R.A., and humankind.
In the end, as with many Scorpios, impatience may be SpaceGodzilla's biggest downfall. While it fares well against opponents one-on-one, it's been overwhelmed by groups that are willing to work with and care for each other.
Sagittarius (November 22–December 21): King Caesar
As a Sagittarius, the one-of-a-kind King Caesar does what it wants, when it wants. That is, if you're able to sing it awake from caved dormancy or otherwise control it with alien technology.
That all said, when King Caesar isn't sleeping, the ancient kaiju with a lion and dog look can be adventurous, friendly, and even a little funny when Okinawa's Azumi tribe calls. Between teaming up with Godzilla to kick Mechagodzilla and later collaborating with Rodan and Anguirus against the King of the Monsters, King Caesar has pulled back a bow of generosity with its martial arts moves to let its quiver of kicks fly.
And don't call this Sagittarius non-committal. King Caesar always shows up when called upon, it may just need some sleep.
Capricorn (December 22–January 19): Destoroyah
With all due respect for humankind's multifaceted goat signs who personify hard work, loyalty, and other positive traits, it must be said: Destoroyah is a definitive (evil) Capricorn.
Created, in part, by one of the only weapons ever devised capable of countering Godzilla, it's no wonder that the crustacean-y Destoroyah would evolve from one form to another on its single-minded quest for vengeance against the world. Unforgiving, critical, and pessimistic, Destoroyah pushes every potential Capricorn flaw into one giant, craggy, bat-like-winged package.
Loyal only to itself, leading only nihilism, and working hard only to spread misery with its horn's Variable Slicer, it's a good thing a "burning" Godzilla was able to harness its own rage to finally overcome this corrupt Capricorn.
Aquarius (January 20–February 18): M.O.G.U.E.R.A.
Given nearly every kaiju in the Godzilla canon's affiliation with water, it might seem strange to assign G-Force's M.O.G.U.E.R.A. (Mobile Operations Godzilla Universal Expert Robot Aero-type) to the role of Acquarius. Considering the technological innovation behind the multi-vehicle mech and its humanitarian mission to help Godzilla protect Earth from SpaceGodzilla, however, the case for its sign becomes clearer.
Like all Aquarians, M.O.G.U.E.R.A. can be hard-headed. Literally. Its entire face is a "Crusher Drill'', after all. That said, the human-piloted M.O.G.U.E.R.A. fans meet in 1994's Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla has a sensitive and flexible side compared to its alien-built robotic predecessors from Toho's 1957 The Mysterians movie.
With humanity as its heart, and at its heart, M.O.G.U.E.R.A. is an Aquarius that goes all out with an "All Attack", even when its revolutionary ways don't necessarily guarantee victory.
Pisces (February 19–March 20): Minilla
When it comes to the empathetic Pisces, no Godzilla kaiju embodies it more than Minilla. In its first appearance, this "Son of Godzilla" gave its all to befriend and empower a bullied boy – all in a narrative that may or may not be definitively dreamy.
Arguably emotional to a fault, Minilla can't always command a situation. Over the years, its much smaller stature compared to its kaiju contemporaries has almost required the diminutive young monster to take a passive role in climactic conflicts.
Nonetheless, humankind will always have a loyal and sincere friend in Minilla. Even if it can only breathe donut-shaped rings of hot air instead of a heat ray, it's never just blowing smoke.
