The King of the Monsters is about to stomp a long way from Tokyo. On October 29, IDW Publishing's Godzilla vs. America: Kansas City one-shot will show what happens when the Godzilla roars into a smaller, state line-straddling city about 800 miles from the nearest coast.
Featuring stories by Kyle Strahm (Twig), Freddie E. Williams II (Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Baldemar Rivas (Godzilla vs. the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers II), Jake Smith (Godzilla: War for Humanity, How to Draw Godzilla), and Buster Moody (Godzilla in Hell), the one-shot will pack 56 pages.
"People have given us some pretty strange looks when we tell them that the fourth city for 'Godzilla vs. America' is Kansas City… but that's what's so fun about it," said IDW's Godzilla editor Jake Williams, "'Godzilla vs. America' is partially about seeing the King of The Monsters in places it has never been before--and what's more unique than Godzilla showing up in a mid-sized midwestern town? Plus, when looking at comic talent, Kansas City bats WAY out of its weight class. These artists are absolutely phenomenal, and I can't wait to see what they have Godzilla do to their city."
From IDW's official solicitation:
Calling it “Kansas City” wasn’t enough to throw Godzilla off the trail—the King of the Monsters knows it’s really in Missouri, and it’s on its way. You may have thought your city was too small to attract a kaiju…well, you shouldn’t have stuffed it so full of incredible comics creators. At this point, there’s nothing left to do but enjoy it. So, join a star-studded group of Kansas City–based comics creators as Godzilla smashes its smallest city yet!
"Kansas City is a great town," said Moody, "There's a crazy talented artistic community here. Whether it's the barbecue, the fountains, the sports culture, the live music, or the art scene, there's always something cool or interesting to do and see. It really is a unique place that seamlessly blends big city life and small town vibes. The aura is impeccable. Godzilla will be one of the biggest things to ever hit KC, and I think the king will have a truly SMASHING time here."
Rivas echoed Moody's sentiments, saying, “Kansas Citians are passionate, resourceful, supportive, community-oriented, proud and kind people at the crossroads of America; and, to state the obvious, we have amazing meats. In this book, we all come together to celebrate the places we all call home and destroy them at the same time."
